Erik Davis’s introduction to The Source book

The group also embraced serious neo-tantic sex ritual, which they called “Dionysm.” Besides treating sex as an expression of sacred sensuality, YaHoWha and his sons all committed to the rigorous practice of withholding their seed except for procreation or esoteric monthly rites. Restraining the typical male climax can ultimately produce intense full-body orgasms, charging the circuit between partners, but activating the kundalini is no “easy lay” in practice. Interestingly, the nineteenth-century Oneida Community, led by the bearded visionary John Humphrey Noyes, also practiced “plural marriage” and what they called “Male Continence.” The words may change, but the song remains the same.

The Third Nostril, Raw Animal Sex, and You

In the last article, I briefly tickled the concept of the Third Nostril: thought by most humans to be another ‘joke’ from the Church of the SubGenius. Of course, their laughter was choked in their human throats when it turned out to be all too real-but that happens a lot when J.R. ‘Bob’ Dobbs is involved. Watch his hands closely. Today, scientists know the Third Nostril by another name: the Vomeronasal Organ. It is precisely this ‘somewhat mysterious’ lump of flesh that we will be looking at today.

Neurotransmitter current not flowing through ion channels

In studying how neurotransmitters travel between cells — by analysis of events in the dimensions of nanometers — Cornell researchers have discovered that an electrical current thought to be present during that process does not, in fact, exist.

[…]

Prior experiments had suggested that the vesicles contain ion channels that carry charged neurotransmitters from the cell vesicle out of the cell, generating an electrical current flowing out of the cell.

Lindau and colleagues report in their paper that there is no such current present. Their experiments further showed that, instead, the charge compensation is generated by the influx of positive sodium ions from the outside into the vesicles, a process known as electrodiffusion.

OVO blog

OVO, a zine that’s been published by my friend Trevor Blake since 1987 (home to Hakim Bey’s first published works and later became part of The Temporary Autonomous Zone), now has a blog. If the annual OVO issues and Trevor’s regular contributions on American Samizdat don’t quench your needs for hatred of religion, obscure counter culture gems, DIY projects, and, well, other stuff, then check it out.

Alex Jones released, and more info

The demonstrators had tried to obtain a “permit” for the protest but were refused by authorities. Officers later ticketed Jones for “using a sound device without a permit”.

However, other people who were simply filming the arrest were also arrested themselves.

Alex said the arresting officer was overbearing and that having the cuffs slapped on him hurt more than when he cut his finger off in a boating accident.

The officer physically charged and assaulted individuals who were not even involved in the protest, such as Discovery Channel cameramen.

Interview with Adam Parfrey from 2002

Extreme Islam was produced primarily to get across an idea that wasn’t disseminated widely in American culture — to show how strong the [fundamentalist Muslim] belief system is and how unmanageable it is, considering there are tens or possibly hundreds of millions of people sharing these ideas. America has to come to grips with the intensity of their beliefs. Any conflict with them will not be resolved by simply saying we’re great guys, we believe in democracy.

I believe Osama bin Laden, if you examine the Koran, is closer to the Koran and the prophet Mohammed’s beliefs than the hope that Islam can be democratic. It’s not a very democratic belief system. To say that it is comes out of a wish that has nothing to do with Islam. It comes from the idea that everything good has to do with democracy or democratic ideals. Well, there are different ideals at work in the world, and we need to come to grips with that.
