Five things likely to make you happier in the short term

1. Go out for a walk
2. Do something fun that you haven’t done in a long time
3. Do something creative
4. Complete some minor chore that you’ve been avoiding
5. Get in contact with an old friend or acquaintance you haven’t seen for a while

Or do your favorite banishing ritual 😉

What we face

Election day looms, so here’s a blast from the past:

She has never attended our domestic violence support groups as she is too tired at night and goes to bed early but the bible study was not optional.

She was excited about “God’s message” when she came back.

This week she moves into low income subsidized housing. Her newest crisis is she has found out when the college is closed for the Christmas holiday (one month) she has no employment. She is hoping to find temporary employment as a seasonal retail worker if the Christmas sales are brisk to tide her over. She doesn’t know what she will do when the baby is born, hopes she can work up till the last week (she is on her feet all day with this job). She will be eligible for subsidized daycare.

She voted for Bush because of his “family values.”

Religion is a public health crisis.

Any thoughts on recurring dreams?

If anyone has any good links, explanations, or theories about recurring dreams, now would be a good time to share them with me. I’ve had a set of recurring themes since I was a kid, but over the past week I’ve experienced the exact same dream three times that I can recall.

Let me just say, I never have nightmares. I think I remember when I was a kid, I had one or two frightening dreams, and once when I was meditating as a teenager I came to quite upset because of some visions. But a full-on terror-inducing nightmare – it’s not me.

But three times in the past week I’ve awoken, completely awake, with a sense of dread, of not wanting to return to sleep. WTF.

All I can remember is that a) a female I know in my personal life accompanies me in the dream (who, I cannot remember), and b) there are a lot of ghouls. (Zombies, ghouls, blood-sucking abominations, whatever. They resemble humans, but host no soul. They come in droves. It’s all about the decay or extermination of everything.)

The first two of these dreams I awoke from, I had perished or been cornered in the same place, after the same chronology of events. This morning, I managed to surpass the point and progress further along what may be a predestined series of tribulations within the dream. However, I still perished. And I still awoke stressed.

Anyone willing to play psychoanalyst or occult theoretician, please feel free to drop some comments to help me out.

Perfectly good questions

Part 1 and Round 2. Examples:

What the HELL was going on in Omaha in 1989?

Why was all of Wilhelm Reich’s research burned by the FDA?

Why did Rev. Moon get to crown himself ‘King of the World’ in a ceremony that was attended by members of congress and the Bush administration and held in a congressional building in Washington, DC?

EFF and 10 Zen Monkeys vs. Michael Crook

crookdork

If you haven’t heard, an online prankster named Michael Crook is trying to abuse the DMCA to have unflattering pictures of himself taken off of web sites. 10 Zen Monkeys (RU Sirius’s new zine) and the EFF are fighting back. I’m suggesting everyone put a pic of Crook and a link to the 10ZM page to 1. Spread the pic far and wide in defiance of the DMCA and 2. Google bomb for the term “michael crook.”

Here’s a snip of code to add a pic and link to your own site. By standing up to intimidation and spreading the word about this case, you can help the fight for free speech online.

Here’s a teaser for the Sex Life of Robots. It takes a while to load. Obviously, this is not safe for work.

Update: Here’s a trailer on the official site.
