Discordian Society Acquires Limbo from Catholic Church

Follow up to a previous post for those of you who have friends still in limbo. The Discordian Society has stepped up to take over operations.

In a surprise move today, the Discordian Society, a small neo-religious group which worships the Ancient Greek Deity of Chaos called “Eris” (and known to the Ancient Romans as “Discordia”), have announced that they have acquired the non-corporeal realm known as “Limbo”.

Limbo, the theological concept previous belonging to the Christian Catholic Church, was abandoned by the Church last Friday.

Although the Discordian Society is anarchic in structure, a self-proclaimed spokesperson for the movement who identified himself only as “His Wholiness the Rev.DrJon” made the following statement:

“The Discordian Society, in line with previous acquisitions, welcomes the arrival of Limbo into the fold. We look forward to giving the place a clean sweep, a good polish and a nice redecoration. We’d like to thank fellow Pope* Benedict XVI for making this opportunity possible. We’d also like to offer the hand of friendship to those tenants of Limbo who chose to stay. We assure all who do wish to stay that they are welcome to continue to reside in the manner to which they are accustomed, however we will also be undertaking a rolling series of improvements over the coming eons, which should see a marked increase in liveability benchmarks.”

There is no word yet as to what purposes, if any, the Discordian Society plan to put Limbo to, however opinion is divided amongst the Discordian faithful.

(* Discordians believe that every man, woman and child is a Pope.)

How UK attempted bizarre X-Files tests on soldiers

The Ministry of Defence funded a secret study to ascertain whether people with psychic powers could help protect the nation, it emerged last night.

The MoD arranged the tests to discover whether volunteers were able to use psychic powers to “remotely view” hidden objects. The studyinvolved blindfolding test subjects and asking them to “see” the contents of sealed brown envelopes containing pictures of random objects and public figures. […]

Surprisingly 28 per cent of those tested managed a close guess at the contents of the envelopes, which included pictures of a knife, Mother Teresa and an “Asian individual”.

But most subjects, who were holed up in a secret location for the study, were hopelessly off the mark in their guesses. One even fell asleep while he tried to focus on the envelope’s content.

Religion and Secrecy in the Bush Administration: The Gentleman, the Prince, and the Simulacrum

I will suggest that we look at the Bush administration through the lenses of three controversial theorists who have had much to say about secrecy in both its religious and political dimensions: the German-born political philosopher, Leo Strauss, the Florentine philosopher, Niccol? Machiavelli, and the French postmodern theorist, Jean Baudrillard. I have chosen these three, seemingly disparate, theorists because they correspond to and help make sense of three of the most important forces at work in the Bush administration, namely: 1) the Neoconservative movement, which is heavily indebted to Strauss’ thought and has a powerful presence in the Bush administration through figures like Paul Wolfowitz (a student of Strauss) and the Project for a New American Century;[15] 2) the manipulations of Bush’s pious public image by advisors like Karl Rove (a reader of Machiavelli) and Vice-President Dick Cheney (often compared to Machiavelli), who have used the President’s connections with the Christian Right for political advantage; [16] and 3) an astonishingly uncritical mainstream media, whose celebration of Bush’s image as a virtuous man of faith and general silence about his less admirable activities is truly “hyperreal,” in Baudrillard’s sense of the term.

Perfectly good questions

Part 1 and Round 2. Examples:

What the HELL was going on in Omaha in 1989?

Why was all of Wilhelm Reich’s research burned by the FDA?

Why did Rev. Moon get to crown himself ‘King of the World’ in a ceremony that was attended by members of congress and the Bush administration and held in a congressional building in Washington, DC?

Viking Youth Power Hour: Every Man and Woman is a Star

Mat schools us on circus lingo and the virtues of the Farmer’s Almanac as we further dissect the implications of an increasingly intrusive government and corporate run culture.
Hey kids! Did you know that the top three TeleCom companies are in the process of using their power and money to turn the internet into a tiered system where information will be graded by them and shows like this will become near impossible to find? You can thank that mongoloid Michael Powell for helping to put this into motion back in his short and destructive stint as the head of the FCC, but it’s the heads of Verizon and his cronies who are trying to make sure that their hold on power remains tight.
But there are heroes in this battle and they demand your support: Freepress.com, the Media Access Project, Common Cause and Senator Widen, among others, are working diligently to lobby and pass laws protecting the neutrality of the internet and to expose ‘astro turf’ organizations which these giant corporations are setting up to make it look like the American people actually want this horse shit ruining their country and their lives. These organizations need your support please consider donating to them if you are able.
We also discuss RFID tags how they’ll be used to track your purchases, how they’ll be used to revolutionize the retail industry, whose fighting against their use, and how clubs in Barcelona are using them to fast forward fashion.
So much strangeness and so much hope, it makes you wonder how the panopticon will change our socieites taboos and their priorities in the future…

Philip K. Nixon and the release of the Downing Street Memo

The New York Times has announced they will publish the Downing Street Memo. Wes wonders on his blog whether his Philip K. Nixon work had any influence on this decision. You can read about Wes’s Drowning Street Memo album here.

Along with Chris Arkenburg, Wes is emerging as a leader in the realm of using magic to assault authority. It was his early research on the subject that lead me to invite him to guest blog at Technoccult, and he ended up posting a long article on the subject here.

Reports from the Big Three

No matter what you do out here on the net, there are people who sort of do the same weirdass thing that you thought was your singular solitary obsession. The interdimensional cousins of this blog would have to be New World Disorder, The Incunabula (otherwise known as the Hive) and probably a new blog called Gravity Lens.

The really cool memes over at both New World Disorder and the Hive have to do with the “real” reasons behind the blackout. New World says that it was possibly nuclear power plant sabotage. And in the comments section, someone points out that awful new worm that’s going around might not be an accident…Not to be outdone, the Hive tells us that this was the result of an odd electromagnetic effect. Could it be the rumored Tesla-inspired HAARP project in the hands of terrorists, or worse, The French, who believe their heat wave and resultant nuclear meltdowns are US weather control retaliation for not getting involved in our stupid wars for oil expropriation…? I think it’s obvious that that’s the truth. Just call me Phil Drudge, fair and unbalanced…

Meanwhile, over at Gravity Lens, aside from linking the blackout to Ayn Rand and numerology which is just plain silly compared to French SATs utilizing HAARP or coordinated terrorist hacking exploits (I mean, come on, let’s get a crazy theory and stick with it) we discover a great site called the Institute of Accelerating Change, which is the bastard son of another site called Singularity Watch.

Read and learn. Oh, if you’re interested in this world excuses for the blackout, check out Greg Pallast’s rip on the Bush Admininstration’s love of deregulation and this older Wired story about how we need to smarten up the ‘ol tired grid.
