Federally government funding pro-marriage propaganda

Over the past several years, the U.S. government has created a fully federally funded marriage-promotion movement and industry comprised of faith-based and community organizations. Through such ideologically motivated schemes as the Healthy Marriage Initiative, abstinence-only-until-marriage programs, and faith-based programs such as those funded through the Compassion Capital Fund, the federal government has put itself in the business of promoting and privileging particular types of individuals and families, while penalizing and stigmatizing others.

Sold as public health and social welfare programs, these programs are using billions of federal taxpayer dollars to push a narrow, conservative agenda that promotes heterosexual marriage above all else-above public health, medical opinion, scientific evidence, and basic human rights. Most importantly, they push this policy above what the evidence tells us is the most effective way to help people make healthy life decisions in the long term and ensure that they live full and productive lives.

The US as Police State, part 2

Read Part 1 of The US as Police State.

In part 1, I took a very brief look at the history of the United States from 1787 to around 1980 and found a history of government repression of citizens at varying levels of government: restrictions on voting, vote fraud, and slavery. Not to mention the genocide of the Native Americans at the hands of the US military.

So now I turn my attention to Ronald Reagan and the point where the “War on Drugs” actually became a war, and not mere prohibition. The drug war is meant to stamp out the “drug problem” in America. A problem that the government helped engineer in t he first place. As detailed in Gary Webb’s series of “Dark Alliance” articles for the San Jose Mercury News, and later a book by the same name, the C.I.A, with the explicit knowledge of the Reagan administration, supported Nicaraguan contras in their sale of cocaine to drug dealers in Los Angles starting around 1981. For more information, see Webb’s 1998 article for the Orange County Weekly, The Crack-Up.”

BBC explores 9/11 conspiracy

Press Esc talks up a documentary on BBC Two that explores (and brings to the mainstream) the conspiracy theories surrounding America’s wake-up call:

September 11 conspiracies will go mainstream on Sunday as BBC airs an hour long documentary that investigates the growing number of conspiracy theories surrounding the 9/11 attacks.

9/11: The Conspiracy Files, will try to answer the question that has been doing the rounds on the Internet ever since the hijacked planes crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center: “Is it an inside job?”

According to the BBC, investigators have travelled across the United States speaking to eyewitnesses trying to separate fact from fiction.

The programme produced by Guy Smith raises another important question: “why was America so unprepared when terror attack warnings had been received?”

According to a Scripps Howard poll, 36% of 1,010 Americans believe that the government is responsible for the attacks either by omission or by commission.

The official 9/11 commission report concluded that “there were specific points of vulnerability in the plot and opportunities to disrupt it.

“The outrage caused by September 11th allowed the present administration to instantly implement policies its members have long supported, but which were otherwise infeasible,” according to the main conspiracy website, 911Truth.org, which receives thousands of visitors every day. “9/11 was exploited to launch an open-ended, perpetual “war on terror,” actually a war against any and all enemies the US government may designate. The case of Iraq shows that the target countries of this war need have nothing whatsoever to do with 9/11.”

Check out the BBC page here.

Heh, and Penn & Teller had an episode of Bullshit! that explored 9/11 that, just as with the yoga episode, I found pretty weak and discrediting to their reporting skills.

Mind Control iPod Update

According to a transcript of President Bush’s remarks on the American Competitiveness Initiative at Tuskegee University on April 19th:

“The government funded research in microdrive storage, electrochemistry and signal compression. They did so for one reason: It turned out that those were the key ingredients for the development of the Ipod. I tune into the Ipod occasionally, you know?”

Ask yourself: Why would the US government, acting through DARPA, fund all that research just to produce a simple consumer music player? And what does Bush mean by “tune into”? iPods are not tuners — or are they?

1971 photo proves AIDs was manufatured, lawyer claims

Boyd Graves, an African American lawyer and civil rights activist claims to have evidence that proves that AIDs is a creation of the US government. “The recently uncovered HIV documents predate the first known cases of HIV/AIDS in America and Africa by more than ten years. However, his latest finding may be the most direct link yet: A 1971 photograph made with an electron microscope showing a manmade virus

that is identical to the HIV virus.”

Weed’s good for you?

Smokedot pointed to an article on THC Today that states that the US government has known about studies that indicate that THC may slow the growth of certain cancers. The article mentions a study that was suppressed in the 70s, as well as a more recent Madrid Test (which I remember reading about last year on Yahoo! Daily News but I can’t find it anymore). Anyway, I’m not sure this is reliable info about the 1974 study, but the Madrid study is certainly interesting.

And speaking of weed… Plastic reports that there is a Dutch company that has figured out a way to legally ship weed to the US (I don’t recommend trying this, though).
