A couple things I’d love to go to, but can’t:
Phoenix Festival is back again this year! This year they’ve got Jello Biafra, Blackalicious, and Saul Williams, among others. (Southern Washington)
Everything You Know is Wrong seems almost like Disinfo Con 2. It’s to feature workshops by Howard Bloom, Paul Laffoley, Richard Metzger, Grant Morrison, and Douglas Rushkoff. (New York State)
Coachella, which Xeni says is “sort of like BurningMan, but with better music, more port-a-potties, somewhat less nudity, about as many E’d-out hula-hooping-and-flame-dancing love children, and half the dust and wind,” is over. But she took pictures.Festival of the 100th Monkey, the sequel to Phoenix Festival has been postponed ’til next year. Maybe I’ll go to the national Rainbow Gathering instead… but I doubt it.I’d love to go to Psygeocon, a psychogeography conference, next week but it’s in New York.I’m gonna try to make it to Burning Man this year. Any other cool gatherings coming up?
I’m sitting in front of a sound stage in the middle of a horse pasture watching robotic kids shift and rotate to electronic music. A computer thumps out crunchy, mechanical melodies over the funky beats oozing from turntables. Neon drawings float under the black light from the plywood dance floor. Off to the side of the stage, a guy sits cross-legged and meditates. I’ve been up since 6:30 in the morning, it’s 2:30 at night now, I’m freezing, and have no plans of going to bed. Fatigue has given way to fascination. I feel great.

Tomorrow I’m off to the Phoenix Festival, a large Burning Man-esque festival in the Northwest. If I can find ‘net access, I’ll be blogging live from the event. I may also post some more stuff tonight or in the morning. Otherwise, I’ll resume posting next week and hopefully get the redesign launched.
