Leaves that were green turn to brown

I turned 23 today. I know I’m still really young. Especially since they say that 30 is the new 20. But I can’t help but feel like time’s slipping past me. And I can’t help but notice that I have flab for the first time, and that my hair’s not as thick as it used to be.

Leaves that Are Green
By Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle

I was 21 years when I wrote this song
I’m 22 now, but I won’t be for long
Time hurries on

And the leaves that are green turn to brown
And they wither with the wind
And they crumble in your hand

Once my heart was filled with the love of a girl
I held her close, but she faded in the night
Like a poem I meant to write

I through a pebble in a brook
And watched the ripples run away
And they never made a sound

Hello hello hello hello
Goodbye goodbye goodbye goodbye
That’s all there is
And the leaves that are green turn to brown

  2. At least now you can throw yourself wholeheartedly into the Chaos scene and maintain the gravitas of someone who is the magic(k)al old age of 23. I cannot say whether that is a good or bad circumstance.

Only two and a half months left on my calendar, but it’s best not to dwell on it.

May your time to come be happy, Master Finley. The journey will be worth the cost.

My notes on Chicago are forth coming, Mike. Where are you posting your review of the Pallihniuk reading? Wish I’d taken notes on the Q&A, though.

Brenden, thanks. As far as throwing myself whoreheartedly into the chaos scene… I trust you’ve seen the recent conversations on Key 23?

  4. I had been, but it’s entirely possible that you’re just pulling an elaborate prank on everyone in a truely Chaotic fashion. What the punch-line could be, I can not say, but I’m certain it would be an interesting thing to behold.
