Circuit-bending is an electronic art which implements creative audio short-circuiting. This renegade path of electrons represents a catalytic force capable of exploding new experimental musical forms forward at a velocity previously unknown. Anyone at all can do it; no prior knowledge of electronics is needed. The technique is, without a doubt, the easiest electronic audio design process in existence.

Just ran into this blog and three minutes reading it have gotten its link placed upon my vaunted Daily Linkbar. Nice, and strikes me as an encapsulation of the zones amongst my wider interest-spectra that my attention always fall upon first…and have for over half my life now.
Coincidentally enough, I just discovered circuit bending last week, via the arrival of the CD packages Ninah Weirdpixie sent out to the contributing artists for a three-disc comp called Women Take Back The Noise. It’s a collection of worldwide industrial and experimental tracks all by women, ranging all across the huge field-gradient that comprises industrial and noise music and art: ambient, dreamy-pretty, goofy, folk-noise, minimalist voice experiments, hardline-oldschool, xeno, montage gritty-thrash-riot, just about everything but the crap passing as ‘industrial’ nowadays that seems to all sound like “Skinny Front Puppy Assembly Line”. It was put together by Ninah and some friends in her shamanic sewing-and-sheetmetal-drum circle, and the packaging included items that appeared to be gerber daisies but were actually circuit-bending masterpieces called noise cookies (They still look pretty floral but they sound crunchy!)
I’m on this CD with the Choronzon track, “Current”.
This was a real surprise, these purple plastic bags loaded with three discs full of fascinating women’s projects and the gerber, which makes a crunchy rattle when waving my Magic Finger over it.
